About me

I’m a philosopher at the University of Vienna and co-PI of the ‘(Musical) Improvisation & Ethics‘ artistic research project, in collaboration with colleagues at the University of Graz and the University of Music & Performing Arts, Graz.

I work as a phenomenologist and philosopher of mind, with a strong interest in virtue ethics, and a soft spot for continental philosophy.

Born in rural New South Wales, I earned a BA from the University of South Australia, an MA from the University of Queensland, before a PhD from Durham University in England. In between, I supplemented my formal education with practical experience on farms and factories, building sites and kitchens, and slow journeys along the highways of forty countries.

For me, philosophy = art = life, and my thinking has co-evolved with my work as a performance artist and in community ritual theatre, based (mainly) in Edinburgh over the past ten years.
